The application
of DBMaker on the Internet
Without
a doubt, the Internet is a hot topic nowadays. Starting with email,
Gopher, BBS, and News Groups on the World Wide Web, the Internet
has transformed the computer industry. The World Wide Web brought
about a revolution in information technology. The World Wide Web
works with hyperlinks and multimedia display, while integrating
text, video, picture, audio and motion pictures. These features
have made the Web a user-friendly interface in our daily life. Now,
the World Wide Web is not only an information revolution in the
computer field, but an influence to our culture and society.
In
the beginning of 1993, there were only 30 web sites. In 1995 there
were over 50,000 sites. The increase in Internet users doubles each
year. We have approximately three hundred thousand Internet users
in the Taiwan area, and the number of Web-sites are also increasing.
All these facts indicate that the Internet will provide a prosperous
business environment and suppliers will dedicate themselves to this
market. Let's think over this matter from a user's point of view!
The truth is that users need a total solution to fit their needs
for interactive business, such as on-line marketing, on-line shopping,
information sharing, decision support and on-line account transferring.
For these purposes, it will be very important to store interactive
information on a Web Server.

Based
on previous experience in system integration, CASEMaker's DBMaker
offers a perfect solution for managing a large volume of information.
For security purpose, CASEMaker combines Web Server and DBMS through
CGI technology. This is achieved with an ODBC standard program.
Whatever the traditional or common CGI, even visual development
tools, anyone who can use ODBC can manage DBMaker perfectly. DBMaker
comes with several basic functions such as SQL, multi-user capability,
transaction management, security management, consistency management,
crash recovery, on-line back up, etc. --- definitely, a perfect
solution for the new World Wide Web times.
